A local man is in custody after an indictment for alleged drug possession and maintaining a residence in the borough for the purpose of distribution was returned against him by a grand jury in Sitka.

Wilson Boon, 24, of Wrangell, was arrested by Wrangell Police Department officers on Friday, Oct. 26 and is charged with three felony counts – possession with intent to distribute hydrocodone, possession with intent to distribute an ounce or more of marijuana, and maintaining a dwelling within the city for the purpose of distributing the illegal narcotics.

Boon has also been charged with five misdemeanors involving alleged delivery of the marijuana, in amounts of less than an ounce, as well as the prescription pharmaceuticals during the period of Oct. 2-16.

He is also facing a possible revocation of probation in a previous case.

According to WPD chief Doug McCloskey, the arrest of Boon came as part of an ongoing investigation – and utilized a confidential informant who wore a wire as part of the investigation.

A second search warrant was also served last week on the F/V Wave Ryder, which is now impounded at The Marine Service Center.

McCloskey said a significant amount of illegal drugs has been seized, as well as cash that police believe is connected to drug sales.

“He’d been selling dope all over town,” McCloskey said. “We’ve had our suspicions for some time since about late July or early August. We know that the drugs were sold on specific dates and were sold out of a house right in downtown.”

Even though the felony portion of the indictments states the marijuana was in excess of one ounce, McCloskey added that substantially more than one ounce has been retrieved but not yet weighed.

“I can tell you it was more than 10 ounces,” McCloskey said.

Boon’s next court appearance is set for Nov. 9 at 8:30 a.m. in Wrangell’s First District Court.
