Ethelwyn Esther Schwartz

Ethelwyn (Teddy) Esther Schwartz, 103, passed this life peacefully on November 30, 2014 in Portland, Ore.

She was born in Mansfield, Wash. on June 20, 1911 to William and Goldie Haynes. Her brothers were Norman, Dude and Howard Haynes. She grew up in Anacortes, Wash. and married Ronald (Mutt) T. Schwartz in 1929 in Seattle, Wash.

She raised her family in Anacortes until 1943 when she moved, with her family, to Wrangell, Alaska during WWII for war effort work in the Alaska fish canneries.

In 1954, after their family was raised, Mutt and Teddy lived and worked in various Alaska towns: Wrangell, Sitka, Pelican, Petersburg, Kodiak, Cordova, Skagway, Haynes, Valdez, Juneau, Homer, Seldovia, Seward and Anchorage in the fishing, cannery and dredging industries, until 1972 when they retired to Anacortes.

Mutt passed in 1974 and Teddy remained in Anacortes at the Harbor House retirement home till 2008 when she moved to Providence Elderplace Glendoveer in the Portland, Ore. area to be closer to her son, Lynn.

Teddy is survived by her sons, James and Lynn; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Teddy will be buried in the Grandview Cemetery in Anacortes on Dec. 12 next to her beloved husband, Mutt.
