Three Wrangell High School seniors each received the Sasayama Scholarship, named after Alaska Lumber & Pulp Corporation founder Tadao Sasayama. On the selection committee, Frank Roppel presents students Bryce Gerald, Amy Jenson and Blake Stokes with the $20,000 award, to go toward the college or university of their choice. Administered through the Alaska Community Foundation, since the early 1990s the scholarship has been awarded to three graduating students in Wrangell and three graduating from Sitka High School. After graduating this spring, Jenson plans to attend the University of Alaska Southeast to study education; Gerald plans to attend the University of Alaska Fairbanks to study science; and Stokes intends to attend the University of Alaska Anchorage to study engineering. Along with Roppel, this year's scholarship selection committee included Bill Privett and Barbara Angerman.
