Borough Clerk Kim Lane has officially stepped into her new role as president of the Alaska Association of Municipal Clerks for 2026.
The promotion was expected as a matter of annual succession within the organization.
As the leader, Lane is tasked with setting the association’s priorities for the coming year. Her responsibilities will also include traveling to various regional conferences in Washington state, Oregon and California to represent the interests of Alaska’s municipal clerks.
Lane, who has served as the Wrangell clerk since 2012 after a year-long stint as deputy clerk for the Ketchikan Gateway Borough, noted that she plans to balance her new leadership role with her existing duties. She expects to handle most of her presidential tasks during her personal time in the evenings and weekends.
Lane earned her certified municipal clerk designation in 2013 and achieved the master municipal clerk status in 2015. She is currently working toward becoming a registered parliamentarian.
Before reaching the presidency, Lane served as the association’s communication director and was sworn in as first vice president during the Dec. 10, 2024, conference, positioning her to take over as president in a year.
She was sworn in as president at the association’s Dec. 9, 2025, meeting in Anchorage.
