Cruise ship season gets underway
The first cruise ship of the season, the 728-passenger Silver Nova, tied up at the City Dock on May 7. Many of the passengers had been on board since the ship started its Pacific cruise on April 23 from Tokyo. One passenger, Tova Licht, of Colorado, said she was looking forward to exploring Wrangell on foot, and was most interested in Mount Dewey. The cruise ship season runs through Sept. 30; the combined passenger capacity of the port calls scheduled for Wrangell exceeds 70,000 passengers. The next big ship on the calendar is the 2,100-berth Nieuw Amsterdam on Wednesday, May 13.
