A collision claimed the lives of two teens riding dirt bikes on Prince of Wales Island the evening of July 14.

Greyer Schwegel, 18, and Paul Lingley IV, 17, were riding their motorized bikes near Mile 24.5 Hollis Highway when the collision occurred around a blind corner, according to information from the Alaska State Troopers.

The incident was reported to troopers at about 7:21 p.m.

“Despite lifesaving efforts, both Paul and Greyer were pronounced dead at the scene,” according to the troopers report.

Both dirt bikes were purely offroad/motocross-style bikes, according to information from the troopers. Two helmets were found at the scene.

The teens were friends, and there were no other people in the area when the collision occurred, troopers spokesperson Nastazia Nogacki told the Anchorage Daily News.

The approximately 30-mile Hollis Highway connects the community of Hollis on the east side of Prince of Wales Island to the communities of Klawock and Craig on the west side. The incident occurred in Hollis, according to troopers.

Next of kin have been notified.
