Holiday dinner tradition
Katherine George-Byrd (above) and James George, proprietors of Zak’s Café for more than 24 years before its closure this fall, have prepared and served a Christmas feast for residents of the Senior Apartments the past six years. This year’s dinner, served on Dec. 17, included enough appetizers to make a meal: halibut dip, shrimp cocktail, smoked salmon dip, deviled eggs and little sausages in sauce. Then came the main courses of turkey, ham, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, rolls, pistachio salad and, of course, cookies and cheesecake. It was all served on Blue Willow China, passed down from Katherine’s grandmother.
