The Parks and Recreation adult dodgeball tournament planned for this week has been knocked out of the game by a town hall meeting the same night to review borough plans for more than $65 million in proposed waterfront developments.
“We’re going to have to dodge this date,” Parks and Recreation announced on Feb. 12, postponing the tournament that had been scheduled for Thursday evening, Feb. 19.
The town hall is set to start at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Nolan Center. Borough officials will present information and take questions about plans to develop a deepwater industrial park at 6-Mile, fill and expand the downtown waterfront, and replace the leaky wooden flume that directs water into the community’s reservoirs.
“We know you were ready to duck, dip, dive and dodge — and we promise it’ll be worth the wait,” Parks and Rec said in its postponement announcement. “We’ll share the new date as soon as we have it locked in.”
The 16-and-older dodgeball tournament was planned as a fundraiser. Parks and Recreation has been working to raise $23,000 to buy new floor mats for the Wolfpack Wrestling youth program. It’s about one-third of the way to its goal.
