Emma Martinsen left Wrangell with a plan and, at age 20, has now put that plan in motion with the opening of her business Fireweed Lounge.

Located near the old Diamond C Café on Front Street, across the street from Nic's Place, Martinsen offers multiple facial treatment services for customers with different needs.

"I went to (esthetics) school in Boise, Idaho, and that's where I learned about hydrafacials," she explained. "That's what I specialize in."

Martinsen went on to describe her work as "targeted treatments for certain things."

"Whatever you want to work on - anti-aging, acne or dry skin - I have treatments for all those issues."

She went on to explain her hydrafacial is a deep-cleaning that hydrates the skin with peptides, serums and antioxidants.

"I use the high-grade serums. Everything I use is more high tech," she said. "I use retinol boosters specifically for anti-aging, and I do custom facials for things like scarring or acne."

Martinsen opened her business in early June, but only plans to stay here until the end of summer.

"I actually live in Petersburg now," she said. "And I plan to open a location there - hopefully in October. Then I'll be back and forth between both locations."

Martinsen said she hadn't heard of hydrafacials prior to her education, but she quickly became enamored with the treatment and decided to make it her specialty.

"So far, things are going well," she noted. "I have already given a few hydrafacials and I'm booking appointments."

Prices for services vary from as low as $10 for just a lip waxing to $300 for a hydrafacial platinum service. Business hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday.
