Beasts best weather for good cause

Runners pause outside Wrangell's Nolan Center before setting off on Southeast Beasts' "Back To School 5K" Saturday morning, shortly before a healthy downpour. "We try to do a run every other month or so," said Lucy Robinson (second from right), who helped organize the event. The group of exercise enthusiasts was donating the run's entrance fees to Anita Ferdinand, an area resident currently undergoing cancer treatment. In addition to running despite all weather, the Beasts raise money for medical causes. "We love helping people," explained Robinson. The group's next run will be its Oct. 18 half-marathon to mark Alaska Day. Proceeds from that event will go to Wrangell Medical Center Foundation's Cancer Care Fund. All are welcome to attend.
