Rejoining the fleet

Dan Rudy/ Wrangell Sentinel

The Venus is prepared for launch from Wrangell's Marine Service Center on April 1, after some extensive work on its engine and exterior by Superior Marine Services. The engine room and piping were redone for the first time since the ship was built in 1968, and the bowsprit and caprails were redone in stainless steel. "It's top-notch," said the boat's owner, Les Woodward. He, his wife, Arlene, and now sons have fished the waters around Wrangell from the Venus for 25 years.
