One People Canoe Society carver Doug Chilton uses a chainsaw to angle down a rough-cut paddle on Saturday. He and his son Michael Chilton undertook a three-day workshop in Wrangell over the weekend with Stikine River Canoe, finishing canoes started last year and reapplying fiberglass and finish to a canoe built in 2014. Eight paddles for the canoe were completed along with five decorative sponsor paddles, which will be decorated and auctioned off to support the program. The 30-foot canoe itself is ready for use and is slated to enter the third-annual Paddle Battle in Petersburg this July.
