Alice Lehnert, 102, passed away at the Alaska Native Medical Center on July 11, 2016.

Alice belonged to the Tlingit Nation, her Moiety was the Wolf, Tribe was Shtax'heen Kwaan, Clan was Sik'nx,'adi, and she belonged to the X'aan Hit House.

Alice was born in Wrangell, Alaska on November 26, 1913.

She graduated from Sheldon Jackson in Sitka then spent many years living and working in Wrangell and Anchorage. From running dog sleds on the Stikine River when she was young, to walking wherever she went in Wrangell as she attended all the meetings for the organizations she belonged to. She enjoyed helping people and gave continuously of her time. She always said it made her feel better helping others. Her hobbies were knitting, sewing, and crocheting. Most of the items she made were given away or donated to groups. Alice was famous for her cooking and baking, which she loved to do.

Alice was the past president of the Emblem Club and was made a lifetime member. She was a lifetime member of the Anchorage Sons of Norway. Alice belonged to the Pioneers Auxiliary and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She belonged to the Chamber of Commerce and served as a local Chairman for the Southeast Alaska State Fair. She also served on the site council of the Wrangell Senior Citizens Center. Alice was a member of the Degree of Pocahontas in Ketchikan and the Alaska Native Sisterhood in Wrangell. She was involved with several health-oriented organizations, including the local health planning board and hospital auxiliary. Alice served on the Southeast Alaska Health Systems Agency board of Directors and participated in the Wrangell Inter-Agency Group. She belonged to the local Tlingit-Haida and was a chairman of the Stikine Native Organization board.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband Bob Lehnert, son Lee Ellis, father Ole Skannas, mother Agnus Dubke, brother Charles Olson, and sister Ann Gunderson.

She leaves one sister Christine Littlefield of Sitka and many, many nieces and nephews.

Alice will be cremated and her ashes will be returned to Wrangell and laid to rest beside her husband and son.
