Family traditions from students in Mrs. Wilson's First Grade class

Christmas is a time of showing greater kindness and love towards those around us, a time to share with family and friends. Many of us have special family traditions.

Kayla Young: We go Christmas Caroling every year with my whole family! My Grandma Beth pushes my Great Grandma Forest in her wheelchair every year. We sing Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer and the adult Jingle Bells. I always feel really good inside. I do my tree every year and open presents every year on Christmas. Last year my Nana and Papa Kirk were there. I felt very good inside.

Hanna Buness: I don’t really have family traditions, but I like to make snowmen and Christmas cookies! I like to put my ornaments on the tree. I go to my Grandma’s house and hang up my Christmas stocking. I have a feast! I always eat mash potatoes, gravy and bread! My mom and Grandma make the BESTEST bread! My Grandpa makes a fire in the fireplace. We make Somemores. Merry Christmas Grandma and Grandpa!

CharLee Seimears: I have four Christmas traditions. I like to make a snowman with my family. I also like to open presents on Christmas Day. I like to go sledding with my Grandma, Mom, Dad, and Uncle Cooper. We go on the track by the school. It’s my favorite place to go sledding. One time I even got snow in my face. My last tradition is decorating the Christmas tree with my Mom, Grandma, Dad, and Uncle Cooper. My Dad lifts me up to put the star on the top of the tree. I feel happy and I don’t feel lonely, because people are around me!

Johnny Allen: My whole family goes to Earl West with our four-wheelers. We find and cut down our Christmas tree. When we get back home, we put up the Christmas tree and then we decorate it! We love to go outside and have a snowball fight. We all get each other really good! We make pumpkin pies. They are my favorite pie. We always sing Christmas carols. Christmas is super, super, super good!

Nithanyel Younce: At Christmas time, me and my family make snow animals. We also decorate the Christmas tree. We make hot chocolate and somemores outside. We open presents when my Grandma and other relatives come over to the house. But we have to wait until my mom is done with basketball practice! I feel great about Christmas!

Ander Edens: We have bunches of family traditions! I open up presents every Christmas in the morning when we first get up. Then we all get to see all the presents everyone gets. Then we go to Nana and PaBob’s house to open more presents, so I get lots of presents! We then go home and have a big Christmas dinner. My Mom makes the best mashed potatoes! My mom likes to make gingerbread men that are really good. We just use plain white frosting on them. I am always excited about Christmas traditions, because Christmas is the type of holiday to have fun and open up a bunch of presents. I am planning on waking up my family early so we can open all the presents. I am really really excited!

Roma Allen: I like to open presents on Christmas morning after we wake up. Me and my Dad and Mom and Felix decorate the tree together. We have a star that goes on top. My Mom puts in on top. We go to my Grandma’s house to open presents. We like to take pictures of everything we got. When it’s snowy out, we go sledding with DJ and my Auntie. I like to spend time with my whole family on Christmas Eve. I love everybody at Christmas time!

Keaton Gadd: Every Christmas I decorate the Christmas tree and open presents with my family. Every year I make snowmen with my family. We always have an advent calendar with chocolate treats. We get to open up one treat a day until it is Christmas. I like Christmas!

Amber Gifford: Every Christmas we go and do fun stuff after we open our presents. We go to Trevyn’s house on Christmas day. I help Aadyn open his presents. I have fun doing that. I go sledding with Trevyn over on the hill by the school. After sledding, we go back to Trevyn’s house and have hot cocoa and cookies. They were gingerbread men and were so good! We make gingerbread houses and little cookies that went with the gingerbread houses. After visiting with Trevyn, we go back to my house and open presents. I feel really happy Christmas morning!

Rhiannon Wenzel: On Christmas vacation, we go out camping. I love to bury my sister in snow. We make decorations out of newspaper and paper plates. Then we punch a hole, put a string through it and hang it on the tree. It looks like there is food on the tree. It’s beautiful! We bake lots of Christmas cookies and goodies! I eat half of the plate of cookies, because they are so good!

Jacen Hall: I go sledding on the twirly slide at the elementary school. One time I said, “I’m number 1. I’m number 1!” I decorate my Christmas tree with candy canes and other Christmas tree ornaments. I like to have people come over for Christmas day. My sister, named Tammi, and my niece Brianne, open up presents with us. Before they come, I open my stocking. When we are done, I play with my new toys. Every Christmas I want a Lego set. I feel so happy because I get so many new toys.

Trevyn Gillen: At Christmas time, my Uncle Max always comes to my house. We open our presents and I always play with them. I get my wish, because my Mom told me that the Christmas Star will make my wish come true. We always have turkey at Christmas dinner. Christmas is my favorite holiday!

Aubrey Travers: Every single time on Christmas Eve, we go sledding with my big blue sled at the Elementary school track. I love having hot cocoa with marshmallows in it when it is so cold! I open up presents on Christmas morning. I spent time with my family. I love it! I go to Aunties and we have a humongus dinner with mash potatoes! My Auntie makes great mashed potatoes! Christmas is so enjoyable!

Clara Waddington: I go to my Grandma’s and eat chicken. I open a few presents at my Grandma’s. We always play “Dirty Bingo!” I always win! I open presents at my house, and I always get the best presents in the whole world! I make Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer with real candy canes. I make cookies with my Grandma. I always get a new coat for my dog, but this is the only year I got perfume for my Mom. She already opened it! I make snowmen, heart-shaped cookies, and both gingerbread men and houses. I think Christmas traditions are exciting and awesome!

Della Churchill: Della’s family has many traditions, but this year they are welcoming a brand new baby to their family! Congratulations to all of them!
