Christmas prayer

The Christmas season tends to be a heavy time of year for people. There is simply so much going on that we easily become tired and frustrated. Our calendar’s quickly fill to the brim with shopping, decorating, concerts, recitals, parties, worship services and community events to the point we feel like curling up in the fetal position in a dark corner because of the added stress. While we may enjoy participating in some of these events, the busyness is not always beneficial. The truth is that busyness distracts us from the reason we celebrate Christmas. In the hustle and bustle of the season, in the stress evoking rush to attend each event we easily miss the fact that Christmas is supposed to be a time of joy.

In Luke 2:10 an angel appears to some shepherds in a field and he immediately tells them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy…” This good news was that Jesus, God’s only son, the only person who can bring humanity into a right relationship with God had just been born. The Christmas story, the story of God coming to earth to save his people, brings joy. It always has. Let’s not miss this ever important fact. Don’t let your busyness get in the way of that.

“Father I pray that this Christmas season we would honor you. That we would joyfully celebrate the birth of your son. Amen.”
