Like a dredge over troubled water mains

A crew with Wrangell Public Works breaks concrete at Wood Street and Zimovia Highway Thursday morning, after corroded bolts were blown out of place in a water line during some routine maintenance on a nearby water vault. Another set in an adjacent pipeline then broke loose later in the day. "I think it's just a constant problem we're going to see happening around town," explained new Public Works director, Amber Al-Haddad. Though water was shut down community-wide on Thursday, many households at lower elevations experienced little or no loss of pressure. Water-saving steps were still taken at local schools, just in case. "It's time-consuming and a big issue for us was disrupting service around town," Al-Haddad said. Pulling in extra hours, the work crew was able to bring things back to normal by midday Friday. "This crew did a great job," she commended.
