New COVID-19 case announced, 11 total in Wrangell

The City and Borough of Wrangell announced in a press release dated 11:45 a.m. Saturday, July 25, that there was another confirmed case of COVID-19 on the island. The case is symptomatic, according to a press release, and the patient is a Wrangell local. The press release also reported that the previous case before this one was also a Wrangell resident.

“Health officials have found evidence of community transmission in Wrangell,” the press release reads. “Community transmission happens when there are confirmed cases of COVID-19 and there is no source of infection identified in some of the cases and cannot be directly traced back

to a known exposure.”

This brings the total number of cases in Wrangell up to 11. Of these, only three cases are now

considered active.
