Lady Wolves fall to Braves at home

The Lady Wolves hosted the Mt. Edgecumbe Lady Braves last Saturday – but only after a quick rescheduling of the games to accommodate a late airplane from Sitka.

The matches, which had originally been scheduled for both Friday and Saturday, were moved to Saturday only after the plane was unable arrive from Baranof Island due to inclement weather.

“Volleyball is one of those sports where we can reschedule and have a double header, so that is what we did on Saturday,” said Wrangell activities director Monty Buness. “It went fine after they arrived.”

The JV squad started off on Saturday morning with a pair of losses at 25-21, 25-10 to the Braves and followed up with another pair of losses 25-17, 25-15 in the afternoon session.

The varsity squad took over in the evening and although they put forward some serious effort, fell short as well 25-11, 25-7, 25-17 in the first game and 25-17, 25-12, 25-14 in the second set of games.

“Our serving was good when we got the ball and our hitting was fine,” said head coach Jessica Whitaker. “Edgecumbe just outpowers us on the front line.”

The Lady Wolves will host Petersburg Oct. 28-29 with senior night starting on Friday at 7 p.m.

Region V tournament begins Nov. 3 in Juneau.
