Cruise liner Regatta stops into Wrangell Thursday. The Regatta is among the last big ships the community expects this year as the summer tourist season draws to a close. A 2012 report by the McDowell Group for the Alaska Wilderness League showed about 36 percent of Wrangell visitors arrive by cruise ship- a figure significantly lower than the 85 percent average of other Southeast communities. The report also estimated that the average visitor to Wrangell spends about $223, an amount higher here than in other communities.
