Cross-country runners place well in Petersburg meet

Wrangell cross-country runners (from left) Teresa Flores, Darian Meissner and Kaylauna Churchill compete at the Jack Eddy Invitational meet in Petersburg on Saturday. Out of 75 places, the three finished together in 36th, 34th and 35th, respectively, with a finish time of around 25:04.

Wrangell High School's girls cross-country team had a fine showing in Petersburg last weekend, coming in fifth overall with 87 points. Seventy-five girls and 127 boys from 15 different schools participated in Saturday's meet.

Wrangell cross-country runner Bryce Gerald legs it, tying for fourth place with a finish time of 17:46.

"Petersburg was a great race for all," said Wrangell's head coach, Jenn Davies. Wrangell Public Schools reported the results for 1A, 2A and 3A.

For the girls' team, Wrangell runner Amy Jenson took fourth place overall, at 21 minutes, 24 seconds. Kimberly Cooper took sixth at 21:30 and Reyn Hutten took eighth at 22:13.

For the boys' team, Bryce Gerald tied for fourth place with a run time of 17:46 seconds, and J.D. Barratt tied for 23rd at 19:57.

"It was a great course and I am proud of all the runners and the places they took. They are working hard every day in practice and it is showing in their races," Davies said in a statement.
