City dock gets a face lift

Dan Rudy/ Wrangell Sentinel

A barge-based crane operated by Western Dock & Bridge lowers a new fender pile into Wrangell's City Dock on Monday. Beginning work last week, the company will be updating the dock's 30-year-old fender system. The new framework will still consist of creosote-coated logs, but will incorporate other materials to extend overall lifespan. The Borough Assembly approved $327,000 last month for the project, which comes out of a state grant. Old piling will get new use as block at the Marine Service Center.
