Kick out the jams

Wrangell's Garnet Grit Betties prepare for a practice run at the community center Friday, kicking off a new season for 2015/16. From left to right: "AntiJen," "ShareHer Terror," "Dirty Dee'd," "Romane Event," "Dr. PsychoDella," "Kooks Deluxe," "Tenacious Taffy," "Stitches," "BabyCakes," referee "4 Chuck's Ache," and referee "Knitty Gritty." The roller derby team is still setting up its schedule, but it plans to pack in plenty of bouts. "We have a lot of travel planned. We are trying to play more this year than we did last year," said the team's coach, Shawna Buness. She said the Betties will try to head down to Ketchikan for round-robin play as often as possible, in part to get more bang for the team's travel bucks. To keep up with the team's schedule check out the Betties' site at www.wrangellrollerderby.com.
