Holiday messages from Wrangell's religious community
In Luke 2:14, which is part of the Christmas story, we find the three simple words of promise, “peace on earth.” In a world filled with chaos, confusion, war, violence, pandemics, disasters, and the list goes on, surely the message was not for us in 2022. Or was it?
A quick look at the concept of peace reveals many areas where we may need peace. In our health, finances, relationships, in our community, and even in our minds. But is that possible for you and I today?
When we consider that peace does not come from the absence of trouble, but rather from the presence of Christ, peace is possible. In fact, as Christ faced the cross and the disciples faced the loss of their rabbi, the words they were given to them of assurance and promise, were, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
This peace imparted was the peace of Christ. This is not a peace that we obtain from enough money, the right retirement plan, great insurance, living on a beautiful remote island in Alaska, the absence of war or violence, chaos or even confusion.
The prophet Isaiah, in Isaiah 26:3, describes it as “perfect peace.” In other words, peace is possible, from God.
This Christmas season, welcome the peace of Christ into your lives. Then you will find peace on Earth.
